Welcome to Week Three! In my time at K, I have always found comfort in this week. This is the time when you finally start to establish a routine. Now that we’ve experienced the lovely chaos of K fest, you can also start to attend club meetings and events! There are so many incredible clubs on campus this year and dare I say, all of them could benefit from the resources of the ESC.
Walking around the K shaped maze, we found tables for Students for Justice in Palestine, Psychology Club, Yoga Club and so many more, all of which run by incredible leaders. Joining a club gives you access to a whole new group of people, centered around a common goal or interest. They make the culture here at K, deciding what community looks like from quarter to quarter.

Why join a club?
Speaking from personal experience, K can feel like a hard place to break into as a new student. That being said, the hardest lesson I learned my first year was that you actually have to leave your dorm in order to make friends. Crazy. In a time of doom scrolling and isolation, it’s easy to close yourself off from cheesy school events and awkward gatherings. When you do eventually take that risk, however, you realize that all the ice breakers and small talk add up. You start to recognize faces in the cafeteria and before you know it, you feel at home. So, if you’re searching for your circle, take a risk, join a silly club, look foolish, and embrace it all. Community will come to those who search.
What do clubs have to do with the ESC? (Club leaders this section is for YOU)
You may be wondering: Why is she talking about clubs and community on the ESC blog? Now that you’ve joined a club, or even better, you’re leading one, consider the many resources we can provide YOUR club. If your meetings feel stale and boring, try hosting them at the Hoop House and get some free, fresh snacks. If you want to take a little field trip, hike out at the arboretum! If you’re hosting a donuts and cider event, consider consulting the ESC on where to find compostable plates and cups. Want a special guest to come and talk about waste streams? We’ve got a few in mind.
We love supporting community at K, in every shape and form. Let us know how we can support yours.
